Dan Harper grew up as a Unitarian Universalist in Concord, Massachusetts. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Haverford College, and spent a year doing graduate study in creative nonfiction at Emerson College. After twelve years working in various aspects of the residential construction industry, Dan began part-time study for the Unitarian Universalist ministry. During this time, he worked as a Director of Religious Education in Unitarian Universalist congregations in Watertown and Lexington, Massachusetts, as well as at the online Church of the Larger Fellowship, and provided part-time ministry in Athol, Massachusetts. He received his M.Div. from Meadville Lombard Theological School.
Dan has served as Assistant Minister of Religious Education, Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley; Interim Associate Minister, Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, Illinois; and Parish Minister, First Unitarian Society, New Bedford, Massachusetts. He joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto in 2009.
Dan lives with Carol Steinfeld, his partner of more than two decades. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, reading, singing, and birding.
