Through music we can transform ourselves, each other, and the world.

The Music Program at UUCPA is one of our strengths.  We are committed to enhancing worship. It can be a gentle way to build community within UUCPA. We also use our music programs to reach out to the larger community and to express our values beyond the church.

Many of the classes and activities are led by lay leaders. Our Music Director, Bruce Olstad, and the Music Committee are available to advocate for our music offerings and to support the leaders as needed. If you want to lead another activity making music at church, contact us.

    Adult Choir

The choir sings at the 11:00 a.m. during worship services on Sundays from mid-August through mid-June.

Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:30-9:30 pm in the Main Hall.

Singers wanted! We can use singers on all parts.  You don’t need to be a sight reader if you can learn music quickly by hearing the parts.  You should be able to make your way around a vocal score. Don’t be shy, give us a try!

Pastoral Care Choir – By Your Side Singers

    • Date: 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month
    • Time: 7:30–9 pm
    • Location: Room 9

By Your Side Singers is UUCPA’s pastoral care choir, begun in the autumn of 2016. Our singers, in small groups, visit and provide a graceful musical presence for any church member or friend who seeks comfort and strength during times of illness or transition. We also serve the Stevenson House senior community. Our repertoire includes beloved songs from our hymnals and other sources. At our practice sessions, we explore the power of singing to witness and comfort, and we support each other in our own joys and sorrows.

    Bodhi Tree Concerts

The Bodhi Tree Concert Series presents high-quality musical performances to the public, and then donates 100% of the profits to charitable causes.

    Sacred-Harp Singing

Join the democratic and inclusive American song tradition of Sacred Harp music, one of the oldest ongoing music traditions in the United States. Rolling Stone magazine talks about “the soaring magnificence of Sacred Harp.” National Public Radio calls it “full-body singing,” and radio station KALW says it’s a “communal experience.” Come find out for yourself. Beginners are always welcome, and loaner books are available.

    • Dates:               2nd Sunday every month, 2-4pm
    • Location:         Room 1
    • Director:           Dan Harper (danharper@uucpa.org)
    • Registration:   Not required

    First-Sunday Sing Community Singing

Come sing with us! We’ll sing favorite songs from the book Rise Up Singing. Anyone who likes to sing is welcome – and if you play guitar, banjo, ukulele, autoharp, etc., you are also welcome to bring your instrument and join in. Please note that the time will change in June and July when the church goes to one service.

    • Location:         Various, usually on the patio, Fireside Room in case of rain
    • Contact:           Beth Nord (beth_n@uucpa.org)
    • Registration:   Not required

    Sing for Democracy

In response to the divisive 2016 election, we all need more community in our lives — group singing builds community! We welcome anyone who likes to sing. We also welcome guitars, ukuleles, or any other instrument that goes well with singing.

We have copies of the Rise Up Singing songbook. Or you can bring a song to share: bring 12-20 lyrics handouts (chords and music are nice, too), or teach simple songs by ear. We go around the circle, each in turn choosing a song.

    • Dates:              1st and 3rd Sunday every month, 2-4pm
    • Location:         Various, usually in Room 10
    • Registration:   Not required
